During my college career, I was always involved with athletics so my availability for work was limited. I needed an internship to graduate college, but I also needed one that was easily accessible with my crazy schedule. I heard great things about the internships offered through the College of Liberal Arts, but when I heard about one with athletics, I wanted it more than anything.
I worked as an intern with the Auburn Athletics Department in Strategic Communications where I reported to Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communication Cassie Arner. While working indirectly for multiple sports information directors, I accepted many different tasks. One of my duties was to run analytics from social media then summarize the data and draft a document through InDesign. Each document was then passed on to SID’s to track progress, follower growth, engagement, etc.
Building relationships was a primary focus during this internship. Overall, this experience was extremely rewarding because of the people I had the pleasure of working alongside. I was given the chance to network and learn about the operations that make the wheels turn behind the department. I truly enjoyed my daily immersion in the new tasks and challenges of each assignment. This internship was a great step towards recognizing my personal career goals. I approached each day with a positive mindset, showed up ready to work and made great strides in my abilities.
